Cellular Respiration:
Reactants: Glucose, Oxygen
Products: Carbon dioxide, Water, ATP
What organelle?: Mitochondria
Photosynthesis:
Reactants: Carbon dioxide, Water, Sunlight
Products: Glucose, Oxygen
What organelle?: Chloroplasts
Photosynthesis and cellular respiration are complementary processes. Photosynthesis uses sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to produce glucose and oxygen. Cellular respiration uses glucose and oxygen to produce carbon dioxide, water, and ATP for energy. The products of one process serve as the reactants for the other, forming a continuous cycle that sustains life.
Plants, algae, and some bacteria perform photosynthesis.
All living organisms (plants, animals, fungi, protists, bacteria, archaea) perform cellular respiration.
Parent Tip: Review the logic above to help your child master the concept of cell respiration worksheet.
