- Fill in the blanks to tell the story of Christmas.
- Mary lived in Nazareth. Before she planned to marry a carpenter named Joseph, an angel visited her and told her she would have a baby. In her dream, an angel called Gabriel told her that she would give birth to God’s son, Jesus, who was to be named Jesus.
- When Joseph saw that Mary was pregnant, he was worried and decided not to marry her. An angel came to Joseph in a dream and told him that Jesus was God’s son and he should marry Mary. Joseph had to travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem to register for a census. Joseph and Mary traveled by donkey. Some people think they rode on camels, but there is no evidence for this.
- Local innkeepers said there was no room for them, so Mary and Joseph stayed in a stable. Jesus was born in a manger (a feeding trough for animals). The baby was wrapped in cloths and laid in the manger.
- A bright star appeared in the sky, which guided wise men (Magi) from the East to find Jesus. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
- But Herod, the king of Judea, heard that a new king had been born. He decided to kill the baby. An angel warned Joseph to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt. They stayed there until Herod died. Then they returned to Nazareth safely.
