Show Answer Key & Explanations Step-by-step solution for: Kids My Plate Food Groups Learning Nutrition Worksheet K 5 ...
Let’s go row by row and figure out which foods belong in each group — and which ones don’t.

We’re using the “My Plate” food groups: Milk, Fruit, Vegetable, Grains, and Meat & Beans. Some pictures are tricksters — they don’t belong! We’ll cross those out. And we’ll circle the right ones. Then we can color them later!

---

Row 1: Milk Food Group

Foods that belong here: milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream (because it’s made from milk).

- Bread → Not milk → Cross it out
- Cereal box → Usually grains → Cross it out
- Cheese wedge → Yes! Circle it
- Ice cream sundae → Made from milk → Circle it
- Milk carton → Obviously! Circle it
- Butter stick → Fat, not really a milk group food for My Plate → Cross it out

Circle: cheese, ice cream, milk
Cross out: bread, cereal, butter

---

Row 2: Fruit Food Group

Fruits = sweet, grow on plants, often have seeds.

- Takeout box → Probably rice or noodles → Cross it out
- Butter again? → Still not fruit → Cross it out
- Orange → Fruit! Circle it
- Pear → Fruit! Circle it
- Grapes → Fruit! Circle it
- Cherries → Fruit! Circle it

Circle: orange, pear, grapes, cherries
Cross out: takeout box, butter

---

Row 3: Vegetable Food Group

Veggies = savory, grow in ground or on vines, like carrots, corn, peppers, etc.

- Corn on cob → Veggie! Circle it
- Broccoli-looking thing → Veggie! Circle it
- Cookie? → Sweet treat → Cross it out
- Potato with face → Veggie! Circle it
- Apple → That’s fruit! → Cross it out
- Can of pumpkin → Pumpkin is a veggie! Circle it

Circle: corn, broccoli, potato, canned pumpkin
Cross out: cookie, apple

---

Row 4: Grains Food Group

Grains = bread, pasta, rice, oats, pretzels, soda crackers, etc.

- Non-fat yogurt → That’s dairy/milk → Cross it out
- Pretzels → Grain! Circle it
- Bread loaf → Grain! Circle it
- Soda can → Drink, not grain → Cross it out
- Dumplings? → Maybe, but usually filled with meat/veg → Let’s say Cross it out (not clearly grain)
- Another dumpling? → Same → Cross it out

Wait — actually, dumpling wrappers are grain-based... but since this is for kids and simplicity, let’s stick to obvious grains. Pretzels and bread are clear. Yogurt and soda are definitely not. Dumplings might be tricky — better to cross them out unless labeled as “grain.”

Circle: pretzels, bread
Cross out: yogurt, soda, both dumplings

*(Note: If your teacher says dumplings count, you can circle them — but based on standard My Plate, we’re keeping it simple.)*

---

Row 5: Meat & Beans Food Group

This includes meat, fish, eggs, nuts, beans, tofu.

- Almond/nut → Protein! Circle it
- Strawberry → Fruit! → Cross it out
- Egg → Protein! Circle it
- Cupcake → Dessert/sugar → Cross it out
- Bag of peanuts → Nuts = protein! Circle it
- Fish → Meat/protein! Circle it

Circle: nut, egg, peanuts, fish
Cross out: strawberry, cupcake

---

Now, double-checking:

Milk Group: cheese, ice cream, milk → ✔️
Fruit Group: orange, pear, grapes, cherries → ✔️
Veggie Group: corn, broccoli, potato, pumpkin → ✔️
Grains Group: pretzels, bread → ✔️
Meat & Beans: nut, egg, peanuts, fish → ✔️

All crossed-out items are correctly identified as not belonging.

Final Answer:
Circle these:
- Milk Group: cheese, ice cream, milk
- Fruit Group: orange, pear, grapes, cherries
- Vegetable Group: corn, broccoli, potato, canned pumpkin
- Grains Group: pretzels, bread
- Meat & Beans Group: nut, egg, peanuts, fish

Cross out all others.
