1. Draw the following alcohols
a) CH3-CH(OH)-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH3
b) CH3-CH2-CH(CH3)-CH2-CH2-CH2-OH
c) Cyclopropane ring with OH on one carbon
d) CH3-C(Cl)H-C(Cl)H-CH2-C(Cl)H-CH2-CH2-CH2-OH
e) HO-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH(OH)-CH3
f) Cyclohexene ring with OH on C1 and C3
g) CH3-CH=CH-CH2-OH
h) CH3-CH2-C≡C-CH(OH)-CH3
i) Cycloheptane ring with OH on C1, methyl on C3 and C4

2. Name the following alcohols
a) pentan-1-ol
b) hexan-2,5-diol
c) 2-chloropropan-1-ol
d) 2,4-dimethylpentan-1-ol
e) cyclopentanol
f) but-3-en-2-ol
g) phenol
h) pent-2-yn-1-ol
i) 3-ethyl-2,2,3-trimethylheptan-1-ol

3. Explain why the propane that is used as a fuel in a BBQ is gas at room temperature, but 2-propanol used as rubbing alcohol is a liquid at room temperature.
Propane (C3H8) is a small nonpolar hydrocarbon with only weak London dispersion forces between molecules, resulting in a low boiling point (-42°C) and gaseous state at room temperature. 2-Propanol (C3H7OH) has an -OH group capable of forming strong hydrogen bonds between molecules, which significantly increases its boiling point (82°C), making it a liquid at room temperature.

4. Draw the following ethers
a) CH3-CH2-CH2-O-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH3
b) CH3-CH2-O-CH(CH3)-CH2-CH3
c) CH3-O-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH(Cl)-CH2-CH3
d) CH3-CH2-CH2-O-CH(CH3)-CH(CH3)-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH3
e) CH3-CH2-O-CH(CH3)-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH3
f) Ethyl group attached to oxygen which is attached to cyclopentane ring

5. Name the following ethers
a) ethyl propyl ether
b) 1-methoxy-2,3-dimethylbutane
c) diethyl ether
d) 1-(1-methylpropoxy)pentane
e) 1-ethyl-1-(propoxymethyl)cyclobutane
