f) aipgamrhd -> diaphragm
g) rhbcio -> ribcage
h) nocelihorb -> bronchiole
i) aievoll -> alveoli
j) otuhm -> mouth
k) rthceaa -> trachea
2) Label the parts on this diagram of the Respiratory System.
- Top left box (below nasal cavity): Pharynx
- Box pointing to throat area: Larynx
- Box pointing to windpipe: Trachea
- Box pointing to large tube entering right lung: Right main bronchus
- Box pointing to large tube entering left lung: Left main bronchus
- Bottom box (below lungs): Diaphragm
3) Find the parts of the Respiratory System
- BRONCHI
- PHARYNX
- LARYNX
- LUNGS
- TRACHEA
- DIAPHRAGM
- ALVEOLI
- NOSE
- MOUTH
- RIBCAGE
4) Select one or two parts and describe what they are used for in the Respiratory System.
The diaphragm is a large, dome-shaped muscle at the base of the lungs. It contracts and flattens when you inhale, creating a vacuum that pulls air into the lungs. When you exhale, it relaxes and moves upward, pushing air out of the lungs. The alveoli are tiny air sacs in the lungs where gas exchange occurs; oxygen from the inhaled air passes into the blood, and carbon dioxide from the blood passes into the alveoli to be exhaled.
