1. Crust - hard and rigid, the Earth's outermost and thinnest layer. Only a few miles thick (3-5 miles under oceans and averaging 20 miles thick under continents).
2. Mantle - made up of the crust and the upper part of the mantle. It is divided into two main sections: the lithosphere (very rigid) and the asthenosphere (soft, plastic-like material that flows slowly).
3. Outer Core - liquid layer made of iron and nickel. It is located between the mantle and the inner core. Temperatures reach 7,200°F.
4. Inner Core - extremely hot solid sphere of iron and nickel at the center of the Earth. It is held in a solid state by immense pressure despite its high temperature (up to 9,000°F).
