Let’s go through each sentence and figure out whether the bold or italicized word is an adjective or adverb — based on what it’s describing.
Remember:
- Adjectives describe nouns (people, places, things). They answer: What kind? How many? Which one?
- Adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. They often tell how, when, where, or to what extent. Many end in “-ly”, but not all!
We’ll check each sentence one by one.
---
Sentence 1:
*The student wanted to finish her homework quickly.*
→ “quickly” tells *how* she wanted to finish → describes the verb “finish” →
adverb
Sentence 2:
*Todd walked very sneakily down the hallway.*
→ “sneakily” tells *how* he walked → describes the verb “walked” → **ad
