- Prophase I: Homologous chromosomes condense and pair up, forming tetrads. Crossing over may occur.
- Metaphase I: Tetrads align at the metaphase plate. Spindle fibers attach to each homologous chromosome.
- Anaphase I: Homologous chromosomes separate and move to opposite poles. Sister chromatids remain attached.
- Telophase I (and cytokinesis): Two haploid daughter cells form, each with one chromosome from each homologous pair.
