- New Moon: Draw a completely dark circle (no illumination).
- Waxing Crescent: Shade the left side of the circle, leaving a small crescent on the right illuminated.
- First Quarter: Shade the left half of the circle, leaving the right half illuminated.
- Waxing Gibbous: Shade a small portion on the left, leaving most of the circle (more than half) illuminated on the right.
- Full Moon: Draw a completely white/illuminated circle.
